During street fighting for the capture of Flushing on 1 November 1944, while occupying with his group the first floor of a house located 300 meters from a German blockhouse, he exposed himself without fear to enemy fire and engaged a German section with his light machine gun, inflicting casualties and forcing it to withdraw.
