Private without specialty OLLIVIER (Jean), of the 1st Battalion of Fusiliers-Marins Commandos: “A young seaman of heroic bravery who displayed complete self-sacrifice during the attack on the port of Flushing on 1 November 1944. When one of his comrades, during an advance, fell under a heavy enemy machine-gun fire sweeping the street, he advanced standing, holding his submachine gun at his hip, toward the enemy post. Although wounded, he continued to advance on the enemy, silencing them, thus allowing his entire company to cross the street and secure a coveted position. He later voluntarily offered himself repeatedly for dangerous missions.”
