Returned to civilian life, he first guarded German prisoners in the Houlgate (Calvados) area, then worked as a truck driver, collecting milk in the countryside around Gavarnie. He later managed a biscuit factory in Lourdes, then a delicatessen in Tarbes before becoming a railway crossing keeper. He subsequently ran a first concierge service, then a second, larger one with his wife in Toulouse.
