A Luxembourger, he enlisted in the French Forces and volunteered for the Commandos. He took part on 6 June 1944 in the Allied landing at Ouistreham, serving a automatic weapon, repeatedly demonstrating his courage and devotion. He was killed at his post on 20 June 1944 during defensive operations on the right bank of the Orne.
