Being in Normandy at the time of the Allied landings on June 6, 1944, he voluntarily joined the unit on June 8. He was wounded during defensive operations on the right bank of the Orne. He then took part in the fighting for the liberation of the port of Antwerp at Flushing and Walcheren, where he distinguished himself by his courage and devotion. (Mentioned in divisional orders: Croix de Guerre with silver star)."
